Given a static IP what you want to do is possible. It may violate your terms of service with your ISP, but it is possible.
Apache (the web server installed on OSX) also supports many virtual domains on each IP address. So you and your friends can all have their own domain name that resolves to your single IP address. You can do this with or without using a NAT firewall. And the NAT firewall could be your OSX "server" or an external device. It sounds like you are new to this. It is not too hard, but you will need to learn how to edit the configuration files for Apache, etc. On Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at 02:09 AM, jake williamson 28 wrote: > > i got thinking - how easy would it be to get NAT adsl installed in my flat > and then set up my g4 running x1.1.3 to host my mates sites? > > if i set up a user account per mate, could they then set up their personal > urls to point to my ip address? > > for example, say my isp gives me the static ip address of 192.168.254.200 > - > the users would then have /~theirname - so they could point to their urls > to: -- Unsupported OS X is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Unsupported OS X list info <http://lowendmac.com/lists/unsupported.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive <http://www.mail-archive.com/unsupportedosx%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
