I ran into the same problem myself, sometimes it worked, sometimes it 
didn't. Turns out you have to have an IP address assigned on an OS9 
system in order to access a Shared OSX volume (yes, even if you're 
using Appletalk and not IP.)

it doesn't say so in the document, I believe the IP address must be 
assigned to the same Ethernet which you are using for the Appletalk 
connection. I know it wouldn't work for me with only a Remote Access 
IP configured.

Hope this is the problem, as it's an easy fix (once you know about it!!)
