:-) That's OK, I rather like it, really. Could be worse. My girlfriend is
Norwegian. Trying to buy a 10base-T network card over there, the cheapest
I could find was nearly NOK1000 - about 70! A cheap one here in London is
15 (maybe US$25). They're probably given away with breakfast cereal in
the US.

Oho! The main problem is US imports. The way all companies adjust pricing
is to remove the $ and replace it with a , adding an instant 30% to the
price. Many also do that to the US tax INCLUSIVE price and then make it
the UK tax EXCLUSIVE price, resulting in computer goods being 50% more
expensive here. Sometimes, they just make up a number. In Norway, they
double the price or more.

The snag is that Norway is richer than Britain, so they can afford it.
Britain is poorer than America, though; we can't.

And I'm self-employed in a struggling IT market. I can't afford toys at
all.

Here, too, but it's a toy for the (relatively) rich.

Some can. Not all.

I think it's also very variable. I have no proper internal DNS here, and
can't get OS X file sharing working stably - but also, user accounts in
Samba are mysteriously broken. I suspect there's weird stuff going on in
the Unix layer that people don't fully understand yet.
