On *local* devices. You can't connect something to an OS X machine by Localtalk - but you could in principle connect to something connected by LocalTalk to a classic MacOS machine. > I guess I've assumed that if my printer is "connected to my computer" > the IP address for that computer will recognize that printer? No. Where *did* you get that idea from? 8) IP addresses are assigned to /ports/ (not computers, devices, printers, anything else: just their NETWORK PORTS) on a TCP/IP network. Never mind, it's not relevant. > My router > is > the "bridge" not so huh? Routers and bridges aren't the same thing. The router has nothing at all to do with your printer connection here. > As you can see I'm confused! Very! You've been trying to guess or assume stuff on no evidence at all as far as I can see. Take it a bit more slowly, draw diagrams and try to suss it out that way. > When I type the IP address in Print Center it recognizes it, I can even > "select" the HP as the target printer but nothing prints. You're entering the IP address of the Ethernet port of the OS 9.1 machine. I'm amazed anything comes up, but no, I don't think you can print that way. > I guess thats my problem, so I'm going to try the USB to Parrallel > route. Hang on. You say you have a printer attached via USB to the OS 9 machine, an Epson, and it works? Well, why not attach the HP that way, then? [1] Plug it into the USB port on the OS 9 machine. (You may need a USB->parallel cable for this bit.) [2] Get it printing from OS 9. [3] Share it using USB printer sharing. [4] Connect to that from OS X (since you've already done that once.) -- Liam Proven http://welcome.to/liamsweb -- Unsupported OS X is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Unsupported OS X list info <http://lowendmac.com/lists/unsupported.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive <http://www.mail-archive.com/unsupportedosx%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
