Kris Tilford I don't know if Panther has more system requirements than Puma, but my brother had Puma running on his iMac Rev B with 96 MB RAM and he said it worked fine (admittedly he is more patient than some of us and can handle waiting a bit). My dad is now using it and has no troubles with it and doesn't have any complaints about it. His last system was an LC 575 and he used it up until a couple months ago (it's still working fine however). If you're patient enough as long as the system installs and runs it will work. Now it's just a matter of what kind of performance you require or can handle. Regarding the CD booting, if it's a copied CD then the drive might not read it. We had a copied version of Panther and the iMac CD drive wouldn't read it, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the reason it isn't working.
