Hi,

I'm with Realsoft since its versions for Amiga. Unfortunatelly for this software, it's made by programming&graphics enthuziasts that completely forget about how computer software becomes popular. It's not due to hard work of their authors - two Finnish brothers that spent a milion of hours on writing such great software.
Respect and thanks for you guys!

Computer software becomes popular thanks to a bit of marketing and mainly thanks to users that share their knowledge about the program on blogs/forums, create tutorials for others. Please look around and tell me how many tutorials yo've seen? How many sites, blogs, forums or articles that describes every single option/parameter in SDS or VSL you've seen? Original manual is not enough even you spend many hours for testing some options. RS never was easy to learn and use software. His unquestionable power remain a mystery for most of us (with some very talented exceptions of course).

Please take a look at modern renders from other software. Using VRay you don't have to spent million of hours testing hundreds of options to achieve reasonable GI results. Dou you remember voices that said: "Hej, take a look at 3DS its's cheating with reflections while rendering glass. RS do this perfect with TRUE raytracying and lens made from glass in RS really works!"
And so what?! Look where is now 3DS and where is RS?

Take a look at pictures recently posted on this list. Do you sees that? They are looking like first renders from the 90s (no offense Lee)

RS is very cheap, it's very powerfull but (sad but true) from CG world point of view it's completely dead program.

Regardles of what I wrote above, I can't explain why I still believe that something can change :-)

Regards,
Artur

Hi Achille,

It's alive but I have no idea if and how hard they are working on V8...
It would be nice (but highly unlikely) if they are working so hard there's no time left to update the website or communicate ;)

An upgrade to V7 is only 100 euros. Like Neil said it's still very efficient and powerful software, especially on a modern 64-bit computer with plenty of memory. It's still great bang for your buck, even after years without an update!

Hallo, I own RS3d ver. 5 but after that version i passed to other softs (Lightwave, 3dCoat and others). Now looking to RS site i notice that it's quiet dead. No news, no new versions after 7... do you know if RS3d, a very good modeling soft, was really dead? I hope not.

Bye.

Achille
