I realize there's nothing novel about this idea...it's a feature
of a well-designed conventional online dialog application.
It's a little more complicated in Commentext because of the
linked web-based content.

That is the challenge, as you say, and it's one that Commentext
tries to address based largely on my own experience with participating
and hosting online discussion groups. The assumption is that the
participants, probably with some editorial assistance in most cases,
will iteratively create a topic structure they find most appropriate,
and will accumulate content within this structure. They do this by
creating new versions of a linked document, thereby propagating
the worthwhile information in the dialog into the present.
