I am using gmx too. Perhaps you are using their web interface. If so, have you 
considered using a mail user agent such as mutt, sylpheed, claws-mail, 
thunderbird, etc? You will need to enable POP3/IMAP and SMTP then for your 
gmx.com account. As a bonus, you bypass their advertising altogether.
