Subject says startx fails after update? So how can it be running?
If the startx is there, and is starting the X11, could he not just
install XFCE or MATE and use them? I've got things running with
no issues with XFCE. Heard other using MATE, but haven't tried it.

Have recently been working on converting TurboVNC to run
directly with native systemd instead of rc.d scripts. Got that
updated on 7 machines. Also converted the rc-local to native
systemd to mystartup.sh systemd. very simple two commands in it.

dmesg was reporting the the tvncserver didn't have a native
systemd, but it created one but it happened ever boot, and at times.
Mentioned it would be going away. Heard some distros have
already dropped it.

Native systemd didn't require much change to work for my setup.
