Thanks, NoOp, for the two responses above ! I finally realised what was going on - while I had uninstalled OOo 3 beta from Synaptic, I had neglected the related DEBS folder that remained on my home folder. Thus, when I cd'd to DEBS from the latter, I was taken to the OOo 3 beta DEBS folder instead of to the one found under /opt/ooo-dev3, and thus the «sudo dpkg -i *.deb» command symply restored the OOo 3 beta files I had uninstalled ! So can it go ! After removing the offending DEBS folder and downloading OOo-Dev_OOO300_m4_LinuxX86-64_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz, I was able to cd to the proper DEBS folder and install the m4 version. Halleluja !... Now for a really interesting observation - and, as usual, a question : firstly, in the new OOo-dev Writer, SCIM works like a charm, as does the «Ctrl+Shift+u→hexcode→space bar» method for inputting Unicode glyphs ! Amazing ! However, when I try the same operations on OOo 2.4.1, they fail. Given the fact that the OOo-dev(m4) works so well, I should like to uninstall 2.4.1, and here comes my question - in the event I do so, am I likely to have any difficulty opening doc or odt files that are sent as, say, email attachments, and which now open automatically in OOo 2.4.1 when I click them ; i e, will they open automatically in OOo 3 ? I'm also wondering if docx files will open automatically there in that case - which would be spendid, as I then should no longer need to boot into Windows to access them.... Henri
