What do you show for:

locate soffice.bin

and

locate versionrc

?

The first will tell you where your OOo3 was installed, the second will
tell you what version is installed. Example:

$ locate versionrc
/home/<snip>/OOo241/opt/openoffice.org2.4/program/versionrc
/opt/ooo-dev/basis3.0/program/versionrc
/opt/ooo-dev/ure/bin/versionrc
/opt/ooo-dev3/program/versionrc
/opt/openoffice.org/basis3.0/program/versionrc
/opt/openoffice.org/ure/bin/versionrc
/opt/staroffice8/program/versionrc
/opt/staroffice9/program/versionrc
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/versionrc

the OOo3 is in /opt/ooo-dev3/program/ on my system (your may vary) -
ignore my other intalls. And now if I want to check the version I do:

cat /opt/ooo-dev3/program/versionrc

and that results in:

$ cat /opt/ooo-dev3/program/versionrc
[Version]
AllLanguages=en-US
buildid=300m4(Build:9347)
ExtensionUpdateURL=http://updateext.services.openoffice.org/ProductUpdateService/check.Update
OOOBaseVersion=3.0
ProductBuildid=9347
ProductMajor=300
ProductMinor=4
ProductPatch=
ProductSource=OOO300
UpdateID=OOo-dev_3_en-US
UpdateURL=http://update30.services.openoffice.org/ProductUpdateService/check.Update?pkgfmt=deb
UpdateUserAgent=<PRODUCT> (${buildid}; ${_OS}; ${_ARCH};
BundledLanguages=${AllLanguages})

So I can see:
- buildid=300m4(Build:9347) - it's build 300m4
