Leave 2.4.1 installed. As I recall you've got plenty of hard drive space
& it is a good idea to leave a stable version to work with. OOo-dev will
quite likely change to m5 in the very near future, then m6, then who
knows, until the OOo 3 release (hopefully later this month or October?).
And as the name suggests it is a development snapshot. Also, there are
some options that are purposely disabled in the dev versions, so keep
your 2.4.1 and just build application launch icons/menu's to 3-dev.

As for docx; yes it will work. You should have no issues in opening doc
or odt/ods/etc files. However, others with older versions (2.4.1) will
encounter a "This document was created by a newer version of
OpenOffice.org. It may contain features not supported by your current
version. Click 'Update Now...' to run online update and get the latest
version of OpenOffice.org" when opening files from you. Now of course,
if they click "Update Now" they will find no newer version, and they
will be directed to the following URL in their browser:

http://odfnotify.services.openoffice.org/OOo2.4.1/notification.jsp?version=ODF1.2

So to avoid confusion to others that you send OOo3-dev documents to, you
can open in 2.4.1 and save, then send to them. It's a bit of a pain, but
that's what you get for testing the dev version :-) BTW: testing is
key, so _please_, if you find a bug please report it.
