Hi,

like I said in my recent reply to leslie, OOo on windows can
only play what is available as a direct show filter. So if
the original microsoft media player can play it so should OOo.
As far as I know Quicktime does not provide such filters.
On linux it depends if you use the original OOo build which uses
the java media framework or the gstreamer backend which can play
anything that VLC can play as they use the same backend.

Regards,
Christian

Got it; you can change the password now :-)

I test in Win2KPro first w/3.1.1 as that's what I currently have mounted
on my virtual machine & then test in WinXPPro.

OK quick test on Win2KP w/3.1.1 and I get the same "The format of the
selected file is not supported" msg. Interesting however, when I test in
3.1.1 linux/Ubuntu 9.10 (go-oo version that uses gstreamer) it works
just fine.

I've just found the WinXP machine that has both 2.4 and 3.1.1 on it &
will test it there next.

OK, on the WinXPP with QuickTime installed, QT plays the mp4 just fine:

1. OOo 2.4.2 I get the same "The format of the selected file is not
supported" msg.
2. OOo 3.1.1 I get the same "The format of the selected file is not
supported" msg.

So now I add VLC & verify that VLC plays the mp4 as well; results are
the same as above.

Sorry, I'll see if I can figure out why tomorrow.
