It's not a matter of re-inventing the wheel, it's a matter of not being suckered into using APIs that are not working as advertised. Some of those problems are hard-coded into Windows and the only way out, if one insists on staying in Windows, is to do replacement. Whether that replacement is done alone by OOo or in conjunction with other projects like VLC is another matter. Which is less work, try to chase a moving, undocumented target or 'reinvent the wheel', is relevant question. > And it does not rely on a proprietary media player on windows. If that assertion is true, then yes it is a shame that DirectX has gained traction.
