Hi Rachelle,

the symbol for the cent is not included in the original 'ascii' 127
characters, so it varies according to the key-code table you are using on
your PC. In table 437 (US), 860 (Portugal), 863 (Canada), it corresponds
to the 'extended ascii' (decimal) 155, (hex) 9B. In Unicode it is 00A2
hex, 162 dec. I don't think you can write it with ALT+key while you are
in Openoffice (there was a recent thread on this topic a few days ago)
but you can get it using 'Insert/Special characters', or pressing
'ALT-GR + c' (if you are under Linux OS).

HTH
Regards,
     Ennio.

On my Win XP Pro/SP2 system with OpenOffice 2.1 I *can* write the cent
sign in Writer using Alt +0162 as explained in my previous post. The 0162
must be entered from the *numeric* keypad, *not* from the numbers above the
letters QWERTY etc. The leading zero *must* be entered.

On my screen, the next three characters inside double quotes: "¢¢¢" are cent
signs produced in Firefox by Alt+0162 (I'm using Firefox/Gmail) to send
this. Do they look like cent signs to you? If not, what do they look like,
please?
