By default OpenOffice.org saves files in Open Document Format (ODF). ODF is
also the default format of Lotus Symphony. In your Windows settings the ODF
format became associated with Symphony when you installed Symphony so ODF
files saved from OpenOffice.org will display as being Symphony files. It is
really the same thing, the difference being only what application Windows has
associated with that file type.

You can change the association if you like. Of course if you do that then ODF
files saved by Symphony will appear as OpenOffice.org files. Whichever
program is associated with ODF will be the default that a file opens in when
you double-click the file icon. If you want to open the file in the other
program you can right-click the file icon and select from "Open with...".

I don't use Windows so can't give step by step instructions on how to change
the program associated with a format. I'm sure it would be easy to find how
on Google.
