Charles,
You can mix synthetic and mineral ... it is not a big deal ... I
thought you were doing your own changes ... With the price difference
however .. I would think it unlikely that a shop would use synthetic
without you specifically asking for it. In fact ... with the frequent
oil light .. I suspected that you might have already switched to
synthetic ... as the viscosity difference will make it light a whole
lot more than what you might be used to seeing. I have been running
the Mobil 1 15-50w auto synthetic and I can light the lamp practically
at will ... and this is a lot different than when I used to use
Castrol 20-50 mineral oil.
Another thing that I never noticed until I started using the
synthetic, (not implying that it could not have been happening all the
time anyway), is an 1/8 -1/4 inch, (3-6mm), difference in the sight
glass oil level ..... sometimes ..... Once .. after replacing what I
thought was "missing" oil ... I had to siphon it out a short time
later. On several occasions I have watched almost a 1/4 inch of oil
magically reappear in the window after the bike was allowed to set
overnight ... I finally determined that this was largely due to the
operation of a check valve in the oil filter I was using ...
In your case ... if you are sure the oil is really gone .... then you
are right ... it either went out the tailpipe or you have a leak.
There really isn't any place else for it to go. I know you recently
changed to individual filters .. and I suspect using the braided
DynoJet piece into the front two air filter tops ........ I wouldn't
be surprised if it isn't exiting in that fashion ... if not ... you
might want to do a leak down and/or a compression test and if
everything is OK then adjust your oil weight, (IMHO).

I don't know what kind of oil he used, mainly if it is mineral or
synthetic.
