Darrin,
I think you may have flooded the engine ... it is not hard to do. You
can pull a plug out and check, (see if it is all wet). I am sure you
have really pulled the battery down too so it is good you have it on
the charger .... If it is really wet you are going to have to let it
sit a little while ... or you can pull all the plugs out and help it
dry out .... This is a long enough sit to get plugged up ... but it
will probably pass once you get started and the engine warms up ....
The backfire is just a waste spark cylinder firing because of all the
fuel in the cylinder ......
