As a follow up on Tim's question, is there a listing of original cost =
for the various models by model years? I'd be interested in knowing the =
original new price of my ' 68 Tradewind Land Yacht.

I don=B9t have that information for Airstreams, but I just posted Avion price
lists for 1962 & 1963 (=B963 & =8C64 model years) on my web site. I really
don=B9t know how Avion pricing compared vs. Airstream, but I suspect they wer=
e
reasonably similar.

Hi folks, I wanted to respond to the question concerning the "new" cost
of vintage airstreams. My Wyoming title lists the factory cost of our
1962 Globe trotter as $3245.00. I don't have the title handy for our
1966 Overlander however I think it was something like $8000.00. Cheers.

Greetings VAC list,
The several friends here in Santa Cruz who were interested
in my elder Airstream have decided it was too much of a
project for them. Hopefully someone on the list will have an
interest in restoring it. Clear title, registered, gutted,
towable (would need new tires to go very far), $500. Will
deliver in northern CA for expenses. See www.pgm.com/png/pix
for full details.

As for original price, I'd imagine just about what it's worth now. The
old Winnebago Box used to sell for $10K-$12K new...and one that was
nearly 20 years old sold for just bout the same.
Weird world.

Hi Judy and others who replied - Thanks,
Today I was assisting the local Airstream dealer with their Beginners Seminar
and afterwards visited with some full-timers who have a 2002 with both Fantastic
Fans and MaxAir Vents at the front and rear. They report no problems even though
the air flow is a little less than if they did not have the MaxAir Vents at
all. The only thing they did was to remove the screen on the MaxAir Vent.
They have had them on for two years and were very satisfied. I know another
couple who have done the same thing and are also happy with the set up. Seems
the only thing I will have to do is replace the incadescent lights with florescent
or move the old lights a bit. Decisions, Decisions!
Cheers,

Oliver,
Actually, JC Whitney (http://www.jcwhitney.com) sells those things,
and the setting tool. I have a kit from another source and use it a LOT
around the trailer.

Hi folks:
I have a 1973 27' ft, Airstream Overlander which came with a dual cam =
sway control made by Reese. However the weight distributing hitch is =
missing. According to the information in the Airstream brochure, the =
tongue weight of the trailer is 550 lbs. I am able to get a reasonably =
good deal on a Drawtite Weight Distributing Hitch. The Drawtite weight =
distributing bars are rated for 1000 lbs tongue weight. The Drawtite =
bars are round at the front and tapered towards the back of the bars. =
They have the grooves at the end to fit into the stirrup/cam.=20
Can someone tell me whether this set up will work? Can I use the =
Drawtite weight distributing hitch/bars with the Reese Dual Cam Sway =
Control? Thanks.

A weight distributing hitch should substantially increase your tongue =
weight limit. The hitch is a wise and necessary investment. I would =
highly discourage towing any trailer without a weight distributing =
hitch. BTW, the owner's manual for my '68 Caravel sets hitch height at =
16''.
