Hi John, If you're moving a single file, once in a blue moon, I suppose using a USB stick isn't too bad. I tend to share many files between my Host and Guest such that it'd be too inefficient to use a thumbdrive to transfer files. If your situation is such that you are sharing your Guest VM across to external users, then you need to take some security precautions. If that's not the case for you, go with Shared Folders.
