Hi, Mark.

I have one setup like that too (XP to Linux). You can use any one of these
excellent products in Windows to transfer to Linux:

At the same time, an answer might depend on your network settings and
security requirements. Some of the other suggestions you got would also
work. Personally, since I already have Firefox on the XP machine and an FTP
server on the Linux machine, I simply added a FF extension called FireFTP
and it allows me to move files securely from one OS to another. The
instructions are easy for making a link from the XP desktop to FireFTP, so
that setting up a link on the XP desktop, which immediately fires up FF and
the FireFTP program opened with access to your XP desktop folder, you can
select files from the XP directory and send them to Linux server:

Using that link, click on the "support" link on top and then look at
"Installation" section, where you see some FAQ. The fourth question gives an
answer with easy instructions. Something like that is really a secure way of
doing it, and you don't have to mess with installing other systems for such
an easy task. Although using the handy built-in VM feature for Shared
Folders may be easier, it would be less secure to connect your directories,
I believe. But, again, your security requirements will probably be the
deciding factor in this functionality.
