I return to my original qualified statement after all, if I were to hear a "good" reason or compelling explanation as to why it is not a viable solution to make use of the USB pass-through feature Oracle built into Vbox, I will continue to use it as I have been when I find it suitable to my needs. Security is a major consideration of mine and not creating shared directories when not necessary is a tenet of best practices from a security standpoint. Being convenient is hardly a good reason.
