I assume you're looking to duplicate a VM.

Step 1 - Delete that copy you made.
Step 2 - Verify the VM using WinXP.vdi isn't running.  Doesn't matter if 
VirtualBox is otherwise.
Step 3 - Make a copy using the tool for the purpose:  VBoxManage clondhd 
</path/to/WinXP.vdi> </path/to/copy.vdi>

Now you have a discreet copy, that VirtualBox knows is a separate 
"disk", with a new UUID.  Setup a VM and use your new disk.
