Where are the submitted patches from the community? Seems mostly just idle talk. ;-)

There are at least 2 patches I am aware of: First the one to enable correct number-handling (including float and all the other Java-Number-Types) submitted by me and the one that adds Map-Support.

:)

But there were quite a few (just search the
archives!) From my point of view it is about *helping out*
instead of complaining! But I almost lost my interesst in
contributing in both, discussion and code. The only thing that
keeps me around is that I use velocity. And there are soo
many things that could / should be done. Number support, Map support,
Bugfixes, Whitespace-Handling, Refactoring of the codebase and so
on...

I agree on a few of these.

Guys, why don't you report the problem to the Apache leaders?
Jakarta Jetspeed has been in beta-alpha-beta status for
almost 3 years. Struts 1.1 has been in beta/RC status for
...ever. <grin>

Of course that's no reason for velocity staying in 1.3.1rc2 since it is well tested and "release-ready".

Well, there's the rub. There were two patches committed recently, and while well tested, there's the problem. I'd like to back them out, but given the respect I have for the committer, I don't want to.

Yes, 1.3.1rc2 should go out if we can resolve that issue.

As for Geir "disappearing", I'd say we just got spoiled with
the amazing amount of time he used to spend on this
completely volunteer project.

You've got a right point here. But there were soooo many discussions about growing the commiter base and the development stalls for many many months now.

I'd like to see the 1.3.x build get a 'final release' moniker
too, but I doubt complaining to the "Apache leaders" and will
enthuse Gier or any other sane volunteer to spend more time
doing that work for free.

As said above: There are some who want to contribute but cannot because their patches are not reviewed or there is no development plan.

You are right.

Daniel, what say you about the two patches into 1.3.1rc2?
