Bill:  If you're inclined, you could build your own Sage, or whatever.  I bought a Sage blank  nine years ago.  RPL 8'6" 6wt.  I picked the hardware, grip and reel seat that I wanted, put it together myself.  Now I have a terrific rod which I use for virtually all situations.   Cost me $220.  Yes, for some budgets that's a lot of money, but I have always considered it an investment in my own well-being, and never regretted it for a minute.  And it's a sweetheart of a rod.    Larry Johnson   "Big J" >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 03/02/02 11:11AM >>> OK, all this talk about rods is making me wonder if I'm missing out. I don't have a Sage or Powell or even an Orvis. I have a simple Pflueger 9wt. and a (feather wt. Eagle Claw)little yellow hammer as Jimmy calls em'. These are both bottom of the rung rods... I do catch fish with them. Now for my question. If I were to go out and find a nice rod of the sort mentioned above. Would I start saying things like, "I never knew I could cast that far" "So this is what I've been missing" or do you guy's think given the fact that I end up fishing a couple of month out of the year at best. Would I be saying things like "I don't feel $500 difference" "wow $600 dollars was worth that extra 2 yards on my cast" ... I have found many similar situations in life where I said... You know I just don't notice a $600 difference. I feel the same about Vices. I could have spent $600 on a vice too but for what I do my flies don't come close to looking $500 different nor could I tie $500 more flies in a given amount of time. Any comments on this thread?
