HI Bill I doubt if you would really think there was $500 difference. I think it is a matter of what you want or can afford. I fished with a Fenwick glass rod that sold for $22. then when the HMG came out I graduated to that graphite. That was when I had 4 kids at home. Now that I'm retired and have no other vices but fishing I use the high dollar ones but I haven't been paying retail either. I think you would notice that the more expensive rods do cast better.
