It would seem that you're in the right area to learn these. Do you make it
to the Wilmington show? I know Kens flies are getting very big on the Cape.
He has two books on them.A Perfect Fish Illusions in Fly Tying and Striper
Moon. For tying I'd get A Perfect Fish. Striper moon is a great book also
but covers a lot of information about fishing Rhode Island. Both are Frank
Amato Publications. You can purchase them through his web sight (previously
posted), The Saltwater Edge in Newport, RI or Barnes & Noble. His hackles
are a little more challenging to come by. They are on his web sight or you
can dye your own. Rumor has it that they're extra long Whiting hackles.
They are sold in some stores over here. I think Orvis markets his flies.
They run about $12.99 - $19.99 depending on the pattern. The Saltwater Edge
carries some. The Razzle Dazzle is also a very popular fly. They are very
light weight flies. I don't fish. From what I understand... it's the
current of the water and the way you fish them that makes them work so well.
They are imitations (illusions) of bait fish, squid, eels, ect. But I'm
sure they also have a little attraction thing going on with the Striped
Bass.
I just finished tying one for you John. I'm trying to get in a second.
Please forward an address for me.
