Decided to take the day yesterday and do some fishing on Blue River - our "put and take" trout river in S. Oklahoma.
One reason I wanted to fish was it had just snowed, it was cold and I knew the faint-hearted would be home and not on the river.

I was right!

I had it to myself - all to myself!

This ole southern boy ain't never fished in 19 degree weather before.  I layered clothes on and was quite comfy and warm.  Ready to catch a ton of fish.

Somebody shoulda told me how quickly the eyes of a fly rod freeze up!  Man!  Cast - knock the ice off!  Cast - knock the ice off!  BUMMER!!!

I settled for 15 foot casts with all eyes frozen solid!

Then my dang wooly bugger got so frozen it was like pitching bowling balls into the river!  Cast - BIG splash - wade upstream to unspooked trout!  Cast - BIG splash!

Well. . . I am be tougher than nails but enough got to be enough!

I take back all the thoughts I had about you folks north of the Mason-Dixon line who don't fish in sub-freezing weather.  You aren't weaker. . .just a whole lot smarter!
