Soren, I learned how to hand (whip) finish from my 1941 herter's Fly tying Manual.  His diagrams were very good, but your photo series has Herter beat, "hands down" and needs no explaining at all.   Hand whipping is almost identical to the way I whip the ends of a rope that I want to keep from fraying.

Thanks for sharing your photos.  I'm sure that anyone who checks them out can become a competent whipper in no time at all.

Same here. I could never get the hang of the whip finishers. Always did
'em by hand.

I think I fianlly got the hang of doing this today.

My wife is gone for the weekend. Have spent 8 hours the past two days
tying flies.

Finally the hand whipping flelt right and looked good when I looked at
it under magnification and compared it to using the whip finisher.

The clusmy old goat finally learned to do something new.
Good on you, Richard!
