That's because they try to swallow it. Flys are found hooked on the jaw while bait is halfway home to the gut. Is it the second chomp or the smell that gets that bait hook so deep?
Murfim not sure if either is the correct answer. the use of egg imitations in alaska can result in an inhaled hook.i have used glo bugs and chenelle eggs and have caught fish deep.obvoiously useless in an attempt to release.i think somethings just look to good for a fish and they are just on a feeding frenzy. this is especially true later on in the year.
