Cool,

I have only mentors that don't know me from Adam.  Kind of fun competing as a dark horse!!

Those aren't my flies.   She ties some beautiful flies though.  I just tied my first Jock Scott Monday.   All this salmon fly talk inspired me and I have to say I surprised myself.  It turned out awesome.  I have to play around with these some more.  I took the summer off swaps to practice on my Classic salmon flies.  It was my goal to tie this by the end of the summer.  I thought I would have to go and get some more help from Ron A to tie this one but I was just in the right frame of mind to tackle it that day.  I would still like to sit down with him or Charlie again and tie another one.  My brain get boggled with how much I can learn from them in one day.

Deb,

Fingers are good temperature sensors!  The tea kettle is what I've seen damage crests.

Also, Woolite is a must for bringing out the vibrant gold hues and shine.  Nothing in the world compares to a clean straight crest.

Are those your flies periodically on Ebay?

Cheers, Brian

I was taught this by Ron Alcott and I haven't damaged any feathers yet.  I use a pot of boiling water on the stove for steam and just waive the feathers through it.    He used tweezers I usually use my fingers to hold the feathers.  That's a good gauge for me if it is getting too hot.  It does a beautiful job of cleaning them.

Be VERY careful with steam!!!  I don't like to use it at all if I can help it, it will damage the delicate fibers on GP crests.
