Would you fish that fly, say, in the Northern Atlantic.. so it would be "Colder'n a Well Digger's Arse"??? LOL... Anyway, besides that.. My rod that broke,, the great Wal Mart special.. I took it back, but they were out, but had a 4# 7' rod instead.. I got it instead, and Man, on a NON windy day, it is awesome... It will cast a light fly a country mile (or the 90 ft of fly line LOL).. and I can hit a one ft square spot from 40' pretty much every time with it... It MUST be the rod, cause I never have been that accurate before.... But, on these heavy buggers.. I'm goin fishing tomorrow (Supposed to be 74 and Sunny ) Woooooooooooo Hooooooo I got My 8# ready  and loaded.....I'll report on whether I needed the full face sheild racing helmet I'll be wearing LOL, Chuck

The other disadvantage to a big weighted fly, like a Clouser, is that an inexperienced caster will drive the fly right into their fly rod blank.  That impact is a leading cause of fly rod breakage.  It may not happen at the time when the fly goes "whack" against your pricey graphite, but later on you wonder why your blank shattered when you pulled on your leader.
