Marty:

I had one of the salesman from the USA send me a pamphlet showing all the threads and colour charts etc. It is suprising the amount of stuff not available in Oz I.e. different colours of kevlar thread- stuff I never knew existed even.

I am sure you could order the stuff and have it posted over, as I will.

Subject: Re: [VFB] Guderbrod Thread Question

Yep, Gudebrod is great thread. If I need a thinner thread I use their 10/0, for instance to tie off parachutes around the post. And even this 10/0 can be split very easily, plus it has less stretch than other thinner threads. And Gudebrod 3/0 or 6/0 is perfect for making thread bodies, for instance on Wulff type flies.
It's a pity that it's so hard to find over here.

Nick: Thanks for the info.. I have only three spools and only tried two.. I have a red  6/0 #BCS85 125 denier  a black 8/0 BCS 118(don't know the denier on it, but I suspect about 80-90, but it tied off OK) The one I had trouble with, as I was trying to tie chili peppers with it is a 6/0 Fire Orange BCS77 125 denier...It is the one that gave me trouble.. The red, like i said is the same weight, but I haven't tried it. I'm starting to think that I just made too many winds on the whip finish.. Chuck

Those are the recent Gudebrod tying threads, and they are great. Not twisted like UNI, and not over-waxed, like some earlier Gudebrod offerings (anyone remember those, came on Guetermann-style sewing machine spools..., with their own plastic bobbin holders?). As far as quality is concerned, IMNSHO they are on a par with UNI. Since their make-up is different, both threads have slightly different uses; I use Gudebrod mainly when I need to split the thread at some stage in the tying process.

Cheers

Henk
