There is one exception to that. Printers. If there's
a Laserwriter or other printer that "speaks"
Appletalk,
directly connected to a LAN, you can set it up as a
"local" printer on an Appletalk Printing Device
"port".

Just had someone on the Mac-n-DOS list with the
problem
of wanting to use a LaserWriter with Ethernet on a
Windows/Mac network and print from both types of
computer.
