You can connect them, but without 3rd party software
about all you can do is use the XP box to share an
internet connection.

XP Pro does have Telnet and FTP and Web server
services
you can run and access from your Mac with Telnet, FTP
and web browser software. You can even use Telnet to
launch programs on the PC.

One other thing you can do is run VNC and remotely
operate the Mac from the PC or the PC from the
Mac. www.realvnc.com It's freeware.

But to share files, folders and printers you need
Thursby's DAVE on the Mac or PC MacLAN on the PC.

If your PC had Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server
or Server 2003 (or NT 3.51 or 4 Server) you could
install Services For Macintosh and be able to access
shared stuff on the PC. Microsoft was going to have
SFM in Windows XP Pro but dropped it somewhere along.
The XP Help wil tell you all about the XP Services
For Macintosh that doesn't exist! The info may even
still be on Microsoft's TechNet website.
