PLEASE be very careful. This is a DANGEROUS task--spring pressure. I
STRONGLY suggest enlisting the help of someone who has done the task and
is cognizant of the dangers. This is NO place for jury rigging and
shortcuts.

There are detailed procedures available on the net. Read them well
BEFORE you start. I did the job, but it was over 20 years ago and I
forget all the details.

Good luck,

Tom Potter

Subject: [vintagvw] spring plate bushing..

Hi guys..

I am planning to replace my spring plate bushing soon and wonder if
anybody
has any tips?

I've read about it and spoken to a few people who done it and I'm
reasonably
confident of getting it back together again.

One good tip I had was to get two bolts with the same thread but longer
and
cut the heads off, install these in 2 diagonal bolt-holes and slide the
cover on, this ensures the cover sits square while you get 2 of the
original
bolts snugged down, after that remove these 2 studs and install the 2
remaining bolts..

TIA

Anil
