NQ,

I remember buying a T-Shirt at a VW dealership in the mid-90's
that has the New Beetle car on it. They hadn't even officially named
it the "New Beetle" yet; the shirt said "Concept" car. I still have the shirt
(though it probably doesn't fit as well). I bought a '99 NB in 2001 with
25,000 miles on it. It is now approaching 100,000 miles and has not
given me any trouble. The only repair needed so far was the mass
air-flow senser (check engine light came on).

I can't help you with your quest for jetting on the 34-Pict -3.
I was always able to tune my 34-Pict-3 sucessfully on my
stock engine (stock distributor). I've not had to shop for new jets
though I've heard of people getting jets from a motorcycle shop. .

I plan on getting my '73 SB on the road this summer after it sitting in
the garage for the last 8 years. I've since bought a '65 Convertible
and a '67 Ghia (for my wife). I stopped driving the '73 SB when the original
engine got too tired. I'm replacing the engine and will be using a
Weber Progressive carburetor. I've heard a lot of mixed opinions on
using the Weber Progressive, but want to try it anyway.

I've been on the list for 10+ years and have enjoyed your stories of
Lil' Red. I also remember you having a '60's bus, do you still have it?
How did the 1776 engine and dual carbs work?

I'd be interested in the Disc Brake conversion for my '73 SB. I hope you
keep the list informed of your progress.

Brian
