The bug is fixed!! the drive to and from work  followed by a cruise along 
the beach today showed that the problem is gone  altogether. Thanks a lot to 
all of you guys for your valuable input and  thoughts on this.
Thanks G2 for the comprehensive  guidance below. We have the good Bosch 
inline filters go for less than $2  here. I should collect a few to keep in 
stock :)
