I had a similar thing that turned out to be the 
coil- it would miss at high speeds when it was 
getting hot, which happened on long straight roads 
at fast speed.

Also had a similar one that was crap in the gas 
tank plugging up the intake strainer.  Everytime 
you did something, let it rest a bit, it would run 
fine for a while.  At lower speeds, it could get 
enough gas, but sustained high speed would starve it.

Fuel filter clog is definitely a possibility.  I 
always run the fuel filter after the fuel pump, 
because a clog in front of it will have it 
cavitating and vapor-locking even before the clog 
is enough to stop the flow.
