Tried the link again, got through. Looks like the end of the valve was
not hardened correctly, and just got eroded away. A little longer and
the keepers would have nothing to keep them in place except friction. A
lucky catch!
I can't imagine that happening quickly. Did you notice that intake
valve's lash getting loose on every check and just reset it? That
adjuster would have run out of threads pretty soon.

Do you have the adjusters going direct onto valve stem? Or are there
caps between valve and the ball foot adjusters?

I have ball foot swivel adjuster and there doesn't appear to be any
difference from that valve to its neighbors. The contact area at the
end of the valve stem also appears undamaged. It looks like a ring of
material is missing from the end just shy of the end.
When I applied the compressed air to the cylinder and compressed the
spring, the keepers did not move from the retainer. I'm hoping when I
take off the head I can compress it enough to remove them.
I have the engine out now and will pull of the head when I get a
chance. But first its time to familiarize myself with the manual.

p.s. I honestly didn't know I had ball adjusters. I'm thinking its a
good thing I did, any further wear on the ends of that valve and the
cylinder would have eaten it for sure.

Interesting, does the adjuster screw contact area also show damage?
Here is a link with similar photos and information.
