I concur. I used to do my own heads when I had the equipment - a Sioux
valve grinder and seat grinder - but without the tools it's impossible
to do it right. Especially if you need to replace a valve guide.

(the side I took off) was quite black with some build-up along the
head/cylinder mating. I was running a single carb with a bigger jet
I had someone set up for the 1915 but I never dialed it in so may
have been running rich.
