I don't think you would want any sort of vacuum going over cord, I guess if the cord was thick and stiff enough it would be OK, but a thinner, softer cord would probably get sucked in. I personally hate cords and cables to be lying around or even to be visible and do all I can to hide them. I used to have wall to wall carpet in a room downstairs where my high-end stereo system is set up. The speakers are free-standing in the middle of the room and I used high-end Kimber flat cables which were installed under the carpet. Last year I ripped out the carpet and put cork flooring into that room and I actually went through the considerable trouble to rent a concrete saw and jack hammer to cut through the slab and jack hammer out the concrete about 4 inches wide from where my equipment is sitting to where the speakers are standing. I then put a 2-inch conduit pipe into that channel and filled it again with ready-mix concrete and then I was able to fish my speaker cables through the conduit so they come out right underneath the speakers.
