Unfortunately, I doubt that someone who is totally blind will ever be allowed to independently operate even and autonomously controlled vehicle. One of the main fights I had opposing this concept was that insurance companies would never go for it; well, upon further reading I discovered that The insurance industry is actually backing this to the hilt. Their reasoning, a computer-controlled vehicle will be less likely to get an accident then one controlled by human being.
