Hi Steve,

I believe these dedicated solutions use a locally stored database and don't
go out online to look it up which accounts for the small lag. Also, you
didn't mention how much an IDMate Omni, Summit or Quest costs, I understand
it is slightly more than $10 or $20 and I don't typically count the cost of
the iPhone because I have it anyways and it does a hundred other things for
me. Considering how well Digit Eyes works and how much it costs it wins
every time in this comparison.

Regards,
Sieghard

I don't think it is unfair, at all.

Having used a dedicated bar code reader and compared to bar-code scanning
apps including Digiteyes, the ease of use is far superior on things like the
IdMate Omni, Summit or Quest. If you are quite patient, have good
dexterity, you can use Digit-Eyes. However, it takes a bit longer to scan a
bar code, seems to be more dependent on lighting than the IdMate laser
scanning device, and there is a longer delay between the time it acquires a
bar code and the time it has the initial identification.

Steve
