Especially when it comes to iPhones which typically have a higher resale value than Android phones, you are generally better off if you sell them yourself and you would get more this way than if you traded them back to Apple. When our provider offered a super deal last year around Black Friday for the iPhone 8 my wife and I decided to go for it even though initially we said we would keep our 6S phones for another year at least. I had a 6S Plus 64Gb and my wife a 6S 64Gb, both had gotten new batteries 6 month before through Apple's discounted battery replacement plan and both phones were cosmetically and otherwise in perfect condition with glass screen protectors on them for their entire life as well as cases. We also had the original boxes with never used wall plugs and the original Lightning cables and I was able to find 2 original Apple Earpods on Amazon for I think around $25 for both so both phones also had new Earpods and basically looked almost like new in the box. I got $400 for my 6S Plus and my wife got $250 for her iPhone 6S, so combined that was $650 or $325/each. Our new iPhone 8 64Gb phones cost us $150 downpayment and we are now still paying an extra $15/month on our bill for a total of 2 years. In total we will pay $510/each for the new phones and that works out to an extra $185 each. That's all in Canadian Dollars, but I felt it worked out pretty well.
