I think APH may be trying to cover their ... since they developed the
navigation app for their Android Note Taker, The Braille Plus 18. The
Braille Plus 18 runs on Android 2.3 and, to me, is not a very good option
for a braille note taker.
So, since they had the app developed for that device, why not release it and
try to make some money to try and cover their costs.

There are only two map options in Seeing Eye: Navteq, and OSM (Open Street
Map).
There are three POI sources, Navteq, OSM, and FourSquare.
If you have a FourSquare account and the app, you can set your own User POIs
in FourSquare and they will show up in Seeing Eye if you select the
FourSquare POI source.

What I'm really curious about is why APH would design an app for
android when most visually impaired people use IPhones? Also I thought
I read in the manual that the software has a choice of three sets of
maps.
