Hi Chris, I agree with your perspective on this. Another advantage of 
server-side push notifications as opposed to keeping your device constantly 
connected to a service like Skype, is battery life. In my experience, leaving 
Skype running in the background chews through a good chunk of battery power. If 
Skype could push notifications to you when the app was not running, that would 
be welcome.
