Hi Alex,

If you like the feel of the iPhone as is but you want a more grippy surface
you might want to consider the Invisishield protectors from Zagg. The
material they use is the same as what they put on helicopter windshields for
flying in desert conditions where sand can quickly dull the glass. They are
made from a self-healing material which has a very rubbery, grippy texture
and you can get just a screen protector or you can get them also for the
back and the sides of your phone.

Here in Canada they often have a booth at larger malls and they also offer
to put them on for a small free which is a good idea especially for us blind
folks. They use some sort of gel first and then the pieces of material have
to be applied very precicely. I think you are not supposed to use it for an
hour or so while it sets, then you can use it and while there might be some
tiny bubbles they work themselves out within a day or so and you'll notice
at the beginning it feels a bit soft, but then as the gel or whatever it is
they use cures it becomes very solid, almost like it's coated in this
rubbery material.

I used to have them on my iPhone 4, only thing I didn't like was that the
glass now is not slippery any more for lack of a better word. I like it that
I can slide my finger around with very little resistance and that does
change a bit with the Invisishield. But any screen protector changes that a
bit and I guess if you were mainly concerned about having a good solid grip
you could just get them put on the back and the sides.

Regards,

Sieghard

Cases also offer a better gripping surface. Perhaps it's just something to
get used to, but I find myself constantly worrying about dropping an iPhone
if it isn't in any case at all. The 4 and 4s aren't as bad since they are
thicker, but the 5 and later always feel ready to slide out of my hand. A
case gives me something more to grip. Again, it might just be a
psychological thing, but there it is.

Hi Craig,
Although I like the idea of using an iPhone without a case, I'm one of those
guys who crams everything but the kitchen sink into various pockets in my
pants, shirts, jackets, et cetera. More often than not I carry my phone in
my left front pants pocket, which is also where I keep my keys, a nail
clipper and my mini Swiss Army knife. So I don't want my iPhone scratched
by all the paraphernalia that I carry around with me. Consequently I keep it
in an Otterbox case to protect it. A colleague of mine used to carry her
phone around without a case. Over time the back camera lens got seriously
scratched, and since the camera is important to me for use with apps like
Text Grabber, Camfind, et cetera, I further resolved to always keep my phone
in a case. I don't mind the extra bulk of the case since I carry so much
stuff around anyway.

Hello, everyone.

The reasons for putting an iPhone in a protectivecase are very good
ones, and I don't want to devalue them. However, the iPhone without a
case is certainly a more compact an sleek unit. I'd be interested to
hear from anyone who has chosen not to use a case. What protective
measures do you take with your phone? For instance, do you put in a
pocket or purse compartment that no other item occupies? Do you try
to avoid using it in crowded areas where the chances of its being
dropped are increased?

Thank you.

Craig
