I have never used cases for my phones except for brief periods as an experiment
just because I like the feel of them better without a case. I keep them in a
pocket deep enough to assure they aren't going to fall out; I don't necessarily
put them in a purse compartment with nothing else but I do put them where I can
find them and where they aren't likely to accidentally fall out when I open my
purse. I don't particularly worry about not using them in crowded areas, etc.
but do make sure I am paying attention to holding on to them. I have had a 3GS,
a 4S, and now have a 5 and a 5S. Over the years I've maybe had two drops with
no adverse results. But this is a very individual thing; you shouldn't do this
if you think you are prone to dropping and accidents in general and you do have
to realize that there is always the possibility of an accident. I always have
Apple Care for my phones as this is the most convenient for me though I believe
there may be other methods of covering for accidents. I know that some would
think it unthinkable and irresponsible to not have a case for a phone, but I'm
happy with my decision and willing to accept the consequences if I do have an
accident. At some times I haven't even had a screen protector though right now
I have Speeddots screens on both phones. But if you are a person who feels
insecure holding the phone or feels it is slippery in your hand or just has a
dread that something may happen each time you pick up the phone, you should go
ahead and get a case. I just love the feel of mine without a case. Oh yes, I
also do make use of Apple earpods and Bose headphones often so I can opperate
the phones without unnecessarily taking them out of a pocket or purse; I also
use a bluetooth earpiece sometimes.

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper
thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:
"This I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord
never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness."
