Well, I am still of the opinion that the mass difference between CH and 13C "should have" been noticed by the authors in the spectrometry, since it so very critical to their conclusion, and so obvious as an alternative ... should I say "alternative to the near-miraculous conclusion" which the propose; and efforts are underway to confirm this. The only factoid that would portent otherwise is that they call it "13C+" which could be interpreted as saying - a "light" version of 13C. Otherwise they would have just said 13C with no plus sign as everyone assumes the MS operates only on ions. But anyway - let's give the benefit of the doubt, which is that a large percentage of transmuted heavy carbon exists after the 10 day run, without the concomitant energy release (only a small fraction of the excess shows up)... ... the top of the following page may be on special interest since it conveniently uses 13C formation as an illustration of positron(beta-plus) decay: http://www.tpub.com/content/doe/h1019v1/css/h1019v1_49.htm When a positron is ejected from the nucleus, the atomic number is decreased by one and the mass number one and the atomic mass remains unchanged. A proton has been converted to a neutron. It should be noticed that appearance of positron decay, is most apt in a situation where the Dirac epo field is "in play" which is a part of the previous suggestions for ZPE-sparberino-pumping of energy of virtual positronium ionization (due to resonant disruption at the Forster radius). If the quantum foam of virtual positronium is a "bank" supplying energy in quanta of 6.8 or 3.4 eV "on loan" - then perhaps it is repaid periodically with a positron that is emitted into "rciprocal space" instead of 3-space. And the connection to Dirac is then doubly relevant since it explains where the excess energy then goes: back to the epo field- "to pay the piper," so to speak with an emitted positron. ERGO: let me modify the preceding suggestions of a VN pathway, back to the nitrogen intermediary pathway ;-) Hey, this is all new, unexpected and genuinely mind-boggling, so it is to be expected that all tentative suggestions are in a state of flux. Jones Wouldn't it be curious - since there is some excess energy appearing in 3-space, if the effective "interest rate" or more like ROI - from borrowing at the cosmic bank (ZPE branch) happened to be .73% ... i.e. 1/137 <g>
